IBA Women’s World Championship to be held in Delhi from March 15
India is all set to host the Women’s World Boxing Championships for the third time, which will be held here from March 15 to 31 (2023). India has hosted the tournament since its inception in 2001 in Delhi in 2006 and 2018 and now the 2023 season will also be held in the national capital. India, however, has never hosted the men’s world championship. It was only last month that it was announced that Delhi would be hosting the tournament for the third time. In this matter, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had signed an MoU with the International Boxing Association (IBA).
BFI President Ajay Singh said, “The countdown to one of the biggest boxing events in the world, 2023, begins now. The World Championships is a testimony to the unique credentials of Indian boxing and we, on behalf of the Boxing Federation of India, are all set to deliver a great experience.” He added, “With the partnership of the IBA team, we are confident that the World Championships will further promote boxing globally. 12 weight categories will be contested in the competition.
This includes the weight categories of 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and above 81kg. Its registration will open soon. BFI and IBA are also working on introducing the historic ‘Bout Review System’ in this championship. Indian women have won 39 medals including 10 gold in 12 seasons of this championship.
