Ravi Dahiya pulls out of Bishkek ranking series due to knee injury

Bishkek. Olympic silver medalist wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya on Sunday pulled out of the Bishkek Ranking Series wrestling competition after injuring his knee during practice here. Dahiya was scheduled to take on Kyrgyzstan’s Tyrebek Zumashbek Ulu in the qualification round of the 61kg category. Dahiya was competing for the first time after winning gold in the 57kg category at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year. A member of India’s support staff said, “He (Dahiya) has a knee injury.” ,

Meanwhile, in the same weight category, Pankaj defeated Georgia’s Giorgi Goniyaashvili 8-2 to enter the quarterfinals where he will face compatriot Aman Sehrawat. Another Indian wrestler Mulayam Yadav also won the qualification round in the 70kg category. He easily defeated Kazakhstan’s Dzhan Asetov 9-4. India has so far won four medals in this competition. Women wrestlers won three medals on Saturday while Manjeet won one medal before Greco-Roman.
