FIFA World Cup 2022: Usman Bukhari of Ghana breaks silence after being accused of insulting Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal, led by veteran player Cristiano Ronaldo, scored three goals in 15 minutes to beat Ghana in their Group H match of the FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, forward Usman Bukhari courted controversy when he scored Ghana’s second goal in a 5-goal thriller against Portugal.

 

Usman Bukhari did an emotional replay of 5-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Sieu’ celebration after putting the ball into the net to make it 3-2 Ghana to Portugal. Bukhari mimicked Ronaldo’s celebration which has created a furore on social media. Many football fans accused Usman Bukhari of disrespecting Ronaldo. At the same time, Bukhari has now broken his silence on this matter. He made it clear that by this step he did not intend to disrespect any person.

 

He said that the way I celebrated the goal, it is being linked to insulting Ronaldo which is not right. He further said that I was emotional after scoring a goal for my country in the World Cup, to show which I took that step while celebrating. He said that my upbringing is not such that does not allow disrespect towards elders. Far from doing so in relation to one of my idols, Ronaldo. Thanks to those who supported me, now focus on the next game.

 

Usman Bukhari scored the fifth goal in the match between Ghana and Portugal. Captain Ronaldo gave the world number 9 team the lead in the 65th minute before Jaao Felix (78th) and Rafael Liao (80th) also scored for Portugal at the Stadium 974. Captain Andre Ayew (73rd minute) and Usman Bukhari (89th minute) scored for Ghana. Portugal’s margin of victory against world number 61 Ghana could have been bigger but the trio of Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes let down for most of the opening hour of the match. The Portuguese forwards failed to take advantage of this, despite Ghana’s players making a lot of mistakes in the match. Portugal started the match well and made some good moves in the first 10 minutes but their forwards failed to break through the Ghanaian defence.
