Netherlands keep World Cup qualification hopes alive with win over Oman

Harare. Netherlands beat Oman by Duckworth-Lewis method by 74 runs in the Super Six stage of the ODI World Cup qualifiers to keep their hopes alive for the tournament to be played in India from October 5. Batting first in the rain-affected match, Netherlands scored 362 for seven in 48 overs. Oman were 246 for six in 44 overs when play was stopped due to bad light. Already out of the race for World Cup qualification, Oman’s team was currently 75 runs short of the target by the Duckworth method. Opener Vikramjit Singh laid the foundation for a big score by scoring 110 runs in 109 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes.

He put on 117 for the first wicket with Max O’Dowd (35) and 80 for the second wicket with Wesley Barecy. Baresi scored 97 runs in 65 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. Bad de Leide (39 runs in 19 balls) and Saqib Zulfikar (33 runs in 17 balls) also played aggressive innings to take the team’s score beyond 360. Bilal Khan took three wickets and Mohammad Nadeem took two wickets for Oman. Chasing the target, Ayan Khan scored an unbeaten 105 off 92 balls but he did not get good support from other Oman batsmen. Right-arm off-spinner Aryan Dutt took three wickets for 31 runs in 10 overs while fast bowler Ryan Klein took two wickets.
