Toor won gold in shot put, Chitravel and Aldrin set indoor national records

Shot putter Tajinder Pal Singh Toor won the first gold for India on the opening day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships on Friday. Toor topped the event with a best throw of 19.49m. The silver of this event was in the name of Karanveer Singh of India. Karanvir’s best effort was 19.37m. In triple jump, Praveen Chitravel set a new national indoor record during his silver medal effort. In the long jump, Jeswin Aldrin also improved the national record while reaching the final.

Chitravel broke Amarjeet Singh’s national record with a best effort of 16.98m. Amarjit had set the record in Doha in 2008 with 16.26m. Aldrin topped the qualification stage with an effort of 7.92 m to seal a ticket to the final. He left behind the national records of Prem Kumar (2016) and Murali Sreeshankar (2022 World Indoor Championship) during this period. In women’s pentathlon, Swapna Barman won the silver medal with a total of 4119 points in five events. Ekaterina Voronina of Uzbekistan won the gold with a score of 4386.
