India will face Belgium in the quarter-finals after defeating New Zealand in the crossover match

Hosts India will face defending champions Belgium in the quarter-finals of the FIH Hockey World Cup if they beat New Zealand in the crossover match to be held in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. India finished second in Pool D, trailing England on goal difference, due to which they will have to go through the crossover round. India needed an eight-goal win over Wales in their last league match to make it straight to the quarter-finals but could only win 4-2.

The top four teams from each pool advanced directly to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-placed teams would play crossover matches to reach the last eight. In the first match of Pool B played at the Birsa Munda Stadium, Belgium defeated Japan 7-1 to top their group and made it to the quarter-finals. Tom Boon scored five goals for Belgium. He scored field goals in the 22nd, 27th, 28th and 51st minutes apart from converting a penalty stroke in the 56th minute.

Apart from them, Cedric Charlier (18th) and Sebastien Dockier (52nd) scored goals for Belgium. Kentaro Fukuda scored the lone goal for Japan in the 46th minute. Japan lost all three of their matches and were thus eliminated from the tournament. In another match, Germany beat South Korea 7–2 to finish second in Pool B. Germany will now face France in a crossover match on January 23 in Bhubaneswar. South Korea finished third in the pool with three points and will face Argentina in a cross over match on January 23.

Germany and Belgium both finished with the same seven points. Belgium, however, qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing first in the pool due to better goal difference. Wellen Niklas Wellen (2nd, 17th and 41st minutes) scored a hat-trick for Germany in the match against South Korea, while Gonzalo Pilat (43rd), Justus Weigand (51st), Mats Grambusch (53rd) and Moritz Ludwig (53rd) scored a hat-trick. Scored a goal. Jung Jonghyun scored both goals for South Korea in the 15th and 60th minutes.
