India remain on top of Cricket World Cup Super League table despite loss to New Zealand

Hosts India continued to top the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League table despite a seven-wicket defeat in the opening ODI against New Zealand on Friday. On the other hand, New Zealand’s team has reached the fourth position with a jump of two places due to this victory. India lead the table with 129 points from 19 matches, followed by England (125 points from 18 matches), Australia (120 points from 18 matches), New Zealand (120 points from 16 matches) and Bangladesh (120 points from 18 matches).

Tom Latham and Kane Williamson scored brilliant knocks as New Zealand leapfrogged the league table in the first ODI against India in Auckland. This win gave New Zealand 10 CWCSL (Cricket World Cup Super League) points. Each team gets 10 points for a win, five points for a tie/no result/abandoned match and no points for a loss. The top eight teams will get direct entry into the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 to be held in India. The remaining teams will play the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier along with five associate teams. Two teams from the qualifying tournament will go to the World Cup. India being the host has automatically qualified in it.
