India on Tuesday claimed the fourth gold medal on the third day of the ISSF Junior World Shooting Championships in Changwon, Korea, leaving behind China to top the medal tally. China has three gold medals. Parth Mane, Abhinav Shaw and Dhanush Srikanth combined to win India’s only gold medal of the day in the men’s 10m air rifle team event. Apart from them, Raiza Dhillon won silver in women’s skeet while Umamahesh Madineni won bronze in men’s 10m rifle individual event. This competition will continue for six more days. The trio of Parth, Abhinav and Dhanush shot a total score of 1886.7 in the men’s 10m air rifle team event. China came second with a total score of 1883.5. Korea won the bronze medal.
This is Abhinav’s second gold medal in the tournament. On Monday, she teamed up with Gautami Bhanot to win the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. In the men’s 10m air rifle individual event, apart from Ummahesh, Abhinav and Dhanush were also among the eight finalists. Abhinav scored 631.4 points and was on top among 64 players. Dhanush finished third with 629.9 points. Ummahesh shot 627.9 to qualify for the finals by finishing seventh. However, in the final, he did well and shot 229 to win the bronze medal. He was 0.6 points behind the then silver medalist Wang Honghao of China. Romain Auffrere of France won the gold medal. Abhinav finished fourth and Dhanush finished sixth.
In the women’s 10m air rifle, Sonam Maskar was the only Indian to reach the final. She eventually finished seventh. In the women’s skeet, Raiza shot a score of 110 to secure the sixth and final qualifying spot. In the final, she and Slovakia’s Miroslava Hokova finished on top with identical 51 points. After this shoot-off was resorted in which the Indian player missed the second target. Hokova hit the target on both occasions. In men’s skeet, Harmehar Lali scored 119. He was the only Indian player to make it to the six-man final but had to settle for fifth place in the end.
