Jyoti won gold in individual event followed by mixed team

Former World Championship silver medalist Jyoti Surekha Vennam on Saturday won the individual gold in the women’s compound section of the Archery World Cup stage one here. Jyoti defeated former world champion Sara Lopez of Colombia 149-146 to win her second gold of the tournament. Jyoti and her debutant partner Ojas Deotale had earlier opened India’s account by winning the compound mixed team gold after defeating Chinese Taipei 159-154. With this win, Jyoti avenged her loss to this Colombian opponent in the World Championship final.

In the World Championship (Yankton 2021), the Indian player had to settle for a silver medal after losing 144-146. In the first round of the final match, both the archers scored 30-30 points with accurate shots. The Indian archer, however, continued her impressive run in the second round with a total of 30 points while her opponent could manage only 29 points. Jyoti, who topped the qualification by equaling the world record, hit three more 10-pointers in the fourth end to extend her lead to 119-117. In this round also Sara had hit a target of nine points. Jyoti had earlier defeated world number one Ella Gibson of Britain 148-146 in a hard-fought semi-final.
