Taskin Ahmed gives Bangladesh their first win in Super 12 of T20 World Cup

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed took four for 25 as Bangladesh bounced back from a slow batting performance to beat the Netherlands by nine runs in the opening Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup here on Monday. Paul van Meeckeren took two wickets for 21 runs as the Netherlands made a comeback after the powerplay to restrict Bangladesh to 144 for eight. Bangladesh then needed to do well in the bowling department and they did so thanks to Taskin as the team managed to bundle out Netherlands for 135.

This fast bowler gave double blows in the first two balls. Colin Ackerman scored a half-century of 62 runs in 48 balls but he did not find support at the other end. For the Netherlands, McCarren contributed 24 and captain Scott Edwards contributed 16 runs. The rest of the batsmen could not even reach double digits. This is Bangladesh’s first win in the second round of the T20 World Cup. Now the team will take on South Africa in Sydney on Thursday. Netherlands will face India. Earlier, Van Meeckeren dismissed Soumya Sarkar (14 runs) in the powerplay itself, after which Bangladesh lost five wickets in 33 runs.

Afif Hossain scored 38 runs in 27 balls and kept one end but he did not get any support. Captain Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das (09) were also dismissed cheaply. Afif hit two boundaries and hit as many sixes in which Mosaddek Hossain (20 not out off 12 balls) played with him to increase the score. 19-year-old leg-spinner Shariz Ahmed, making his debut in the T20 World Cup, took Shakib’s wicket. Ahmed took one wicket for 27 runs in three overs. Bangladesh got off to a strong start thanks to Najimul Hossain Shanto (25 runs) and Sarkar (14) who put on 43 runs for the first wicket in five overs. But after that the team kept losing wickets.
