Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets in a thrilling IPL match today. Chasing the target of 147 runs, Delhi’s team achieved it at the loss of 6 wickets. However, the batting of Delhi Capitals also appeared to falter. Despite this, thanks to small innings from David Warner, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel and Roman Powell, Delhi managed to beat Kolkata. David Warner played the most innings of 42 runs for Delhi. Delhi were dealt a blow on the very first ball when Umesh Yadav dismissed Prithvi Shaw for zero. For Kolkata, Umesh Yadav took three wickets for 24 runs in the bowling of 4 overs. While Sunil Narine bowled softly. With this win, Delhi Capitals now have 8 points in the points table. On the other hand, the road ahead for Kolkata looks difficult.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals restricted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 146 for nine (IPL) despite Nitish Rana’s lucrative half-century innings by Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant deliveries. Left-arm wrist bowler Kuldeep took four for 14 in three overs while pacer Mustafizur Rahman (3 for 18 in his four overs) supported him well. Nitish came to the crease in the eighth over when the score was 35 for four. He scored 57 runs in 34 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. Nitish meanwhile shared 48 runs with skipper Shreyas Iyer (42 off 37 balls) and 62 runs with Rinku Singh (23 off 16 balls). Only these three KKR batsmen reached double digits. After losing the toss, KKR did not take long to lose the top-order batsmen as well. His score in the eighth over was 35 for four. Only 29 runs were scored in the powerplay and both the openers Aaron Finch (three) and Venkatesh Iyer (six) returned to the pavilion. Finch’s return was not pleasant. He avoided being lbw, his catch was missed but left-arm pacer Chetan Sakaria (1 for 17) did not let the Australian batsman take advantage of the lifeline as he slammed the inswinger.

Venkatesh gave a simple catch to Axar Patel (1 for 28) in an attempt to sweep the ball. Kuldeep held the ball in the eighth over and dismissed debutants Baba Inderjit (six) and Sunil Narine (nil) in successive deliveries. After that, when he came for the second spell in the 14th over, he savored KKR’s comeback hopes of Shreyas and the dangerous Andre Russell (Zero) in this over by enjoying their blazing deliveries. Shreyas shared a 48-run partnership with Nitish for the fifth wicket. In the meantime, he focused on grooming the innings and hit four boundaries while Nitish hit Lalit Yadav for the first six of the innings in the 13th over. Pant, however, took a low catch from Shreyas and then beautifully stumped Russell. However, Pant’s decision to give Lalit the 17th over instead of Kuldeep was not right. Nitish scored 17 runs in this over with the help of two sixes. It also included a waist-height no-ball for which Pant was also seen talking to the umpire. Nitish completed his half-century in 30 balls by hitting a six off Shardul Thakur. Mustafizur took all his three wickets in the last over of the innings, including the wickets of Rinku Singh and Nitish. Only two runs were scored in this over.
