Manish, Hussamuddin enter quarterfinals of men’s national boxing

World Championships 2019 bronze medalist Manish Kaushik, 2022 Asian Championships bronze medalist Mohammad Hassamuddin and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion Gaurav Solanki advanced to the quarterfinals with victories in the sixth Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships on Tuesday. Kaushik (63.5kg), representing the Army Sports Control Board (SSCB), displayed his technical prowess to get the better of 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Sandeep Dhoni of Andhra Pradesh. Such was Kaushik’s dominance that the referee had to stop the fight in the second round itself.

Two-time Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist Hassamuddin (57kg) of Sena defeated Mizoram’s Lallavamwma by unanimous decision. Haryana’s Solanki (60kg) defeated Harendra Singh of Madhya Pradesh 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals. Govind Sahni (48kg), representing Railways, defeated Mansingh of Jammu and Kashmir 5-0. The 2022 Asian Championships bronze medalist will face Haley Tana Tara of Arunachal Pradesh in the quarter-finals. Sahni’s team-mate Varinder Singh (60kg) registered an emphatic win against Ibrahim Mohammed of Army. Asian Youth Champion (2021) Vishwamitra Chongtham (51kg), representing the Army, registered an impressive 5-0 win over Prabhudas Yadla of Andhra Pradesh.
