News of relief amidst devastation caused by Turkey Earthquake, former Chelsea forward Christian Atsu rescued from missing debris

London. Former Chelsea and Newcastle forward Christian Atsu has been rescued from the rubble following a devastating earthquake in Turkey. The Ghana Football Association gave this information on Twitter. Ghanaian player Atsu plays for Turkish club Hatayspor. Club spokesman Mustafa Ozat told that he was in the building which has been destroyed. Two players of the club have been pulled out safely from the debris. Atsu could not be traced but the Ghana Football Association wrote on its official Twitter account on Tuesday, “We have received positive news that Christian Atsu has been evacuated safely.”

He is undergoing treatment but no detailed information was given about it. A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey and neighboring Syria on Monday, killing more than 5,000 people and injuring thousands. Thousands of buildings were heavily damaged by the quake. The toll of casualties is expected to rise as rescuers are still searching the affected areas for people trapped under the rubble. The tremor was felt on both sides of the border before sunrise and people had to come out despite the cold and rain.
