Ankita Raina, Prarthana Thombare in doubles quarterfinals of ITF Women’s Open

The Indian pair of Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare made a stunning comeback after going down in doubles to seal their place in the quarterfinals of the ITF Women’s Open here on Tuesday. The second seeded pair defeated Indian pair of Sharmada Balu and Germany’s Sarah Rebecca Sekulic 5-7 6-3 10-6 in a thrilling pre-quarterfinal match that lasted nearly two hours. Indian pair of Rutuja Bhosle and Jacqueline Awad defeated Ji Hee Choi (South Korea) and Li Ya-hsuan (Chinese Taipei) 6-4 6-4. Apart from Pragati Narayan and Pratibha Narayan, Indian pairs of Vaidehi Chowdhary and Sreevalli Rashmika had to face defeat in their respective matches. Sharmada also lost in the singles category along with the doubles. The wild card holder was defeated by eighth seed Eden Silva of Britain 2-6, 4-6.
