Shreyas and Kishan’s brilliant batting helped India beat South Africa by seven wickets

Ranchi. Shreyas Iyer (113 not out) scored a century and his 161-run stand with Ishan Kishan (93) for the third wicket helped India beat South Africa by seven wickets in the second ODI to level the three-match series 1-1. have done. Mohammed Siraj (3 for 38 in 10 overs) bowled India to win the match by scoring 282 for three with 25 balls to spare after restricting South Africa to 278 for seven.

Shreyas hit 15 fours in an unbeaten innings of 111 balls, while Kishan hit four fours and seven sixes in his aggressive innings of 84 balls at his home ground. After Kishan’s dismissal, Shreyas shared an unbroken 73-run partnership for the third wicket with Sanju Samson (30 not out) in the previous match. Earlier, South Africa had created a challenging score on the basis of half-centuries from Aiden Markram (79) and Reeza Hendrix (74) and a 129-run partnership for the third wicket between the two. Hendrix hit nine fours and a six in his 76-ball knock, while Markram hit seven fours and a six in his 89-ball knock. David Malan, who was in superb rhythm, remained unbeaten on 35 off 34 balls.

The Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly in the opening and final overs of the match with Siraj impressing the most. Washington Sundar (1 for 60), debutant Shahbaz Ahmed (1 for 54), Kuldeep Yadav (1 for 49) and Shardul Thakur (1 for 36) also took a wicket each. Chasing the target, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave India a clean start. Dhawan scored 13 runs in the sixth over, bowled by Wayne Parnell (1 for 44). Gill hit some brilliant boundaries from the other end but in the ninth over he returned to the pavilion after scoring 28 off 26 balls off Kagiso Rabada (1 for 59). Kishan opened the account by hitting a four against Rabada, while Shreyas opened his hand against Parnell by hitting a four in the 10th over. While Kishan was playing well in the beginning of the innings, Iyer scored fast during this period. Kishan improved his strike rate by hitting three sixes off Maharaj in the 19th and 21st overs.

In the 26th over of the innings, Kishan completed his half-century off 60 balls with one run off Markram, while Shreyas completed his fifty in 47 balls with a four on the next ball. After completing the half-century, Kishan took a more aggressive approach, after reaching the delivery of Fortin (27th over) to the visitors, in the 32nd over, Norkhia hit four fours and two sixes in successive deliveries. He was caught by Hendrix and missed a century while trying to hit another six against Fortin. Shreyas completed his hundred in 103 balls by hitting a four on the second ball of the 43rd over. He gave the team victory by hitting a four against Norkhia on the fifth ball of the 46th over. Samson hit a four and a six in his 36-ball innings. Keshav Maharaj, who was leading South Africa in the absence of regular captain Temba Bavuma, won the toss and elected to bat.

Experienced Quinton de Kock hit a brilliant boundary against Mohammad Siraj in the very first ball of the innings but the bowler bowled him on the opening ball of his second over. Opener Jaaneman Malan (25) and Hendrix then batted cautiously. All-rounder Shahbaz took the first wicket of his ODI career by taking Malan leg before in the 10th over. The appeal of this left-arm spin bowler was turned down by the on-field umpire but he had to change his decision at the time of review. Hendrix hit a four against Kuldeep Yadav in the 12th over, after which the team’s fifty was completed in this over.

Hendrix and Markram then batted cautiously and kept the ball across the boundary line in the middle, which improved the team’s run-rate as South Africa completed 100 runs in 21 overs. Hendrix completed his fourth half-century of ODI career by taking a run against Shahbaz in the fifth ball of the 26th over of the innings. Shardul Thakur ended Parnell’s 22-ball 16 in the 47th over at the hands of Shreyas Iyer. Miller ended his 41-ball drought in the 49th over with the bat hitting two consecutive fours against Shardul. Siraj conceded just three runs in the last over and bowled Captain Maharaj (5 runs). South Africa’s team could only manage 26 runs in the last five overs.
