Healy is Australia’s vice-captain, may lead the team on India tour

Alyssa Healy was on Thursday appointed as the vice-captain of the Australian women’s cricket team and the star wicket-keeper batsman is likely to lead the team on its tour of India in December. Rachel Haynes retired from international cricket last month, giving Healy the responsibility. With World Cup winning captain Meg Lanning still on her indefinite break, Healy could be handed the captaincy over the team’s upcoming tours.

These tours also include five T20 matches in India, in addition to the team playing a home series against Pakistan and the T20 World Cup in South Africa next year. Lanning took an indefinite break after leading Australia to success at the Commonwealth Games to focus on herself. Healy told cricket.com.au: “It’s an honor to be offered the vice-captaincy of any Australian team and this team has achieved so much success. ,

“Rachael has been instrumental in supporting Meg (as vice-captain) and it will be a huge responsibility for him to play that role in the team,” he said. I look forward to helping lead this team along with Meg and Shell (coach Shelly Nischke). Although Healy (32) has temporarily taken the role of vice-captain in the series against India in Haynes’s absence last year in multiple formats, the role will not be new to her. Shaun Fleger, women’s cricket head of performance and national selector, said, “We are delighted that Alyssa has agreed to take on the role of vice-captain. Together with Meg, she can make a significant contribution to the team.
