India wins two more golds, ends 15th Asian Airgun Championship with 25 golds

India ended a dominating campaign at the 15th Asian Airgun Championship in Daegu, Korea with 25 gold medals, including two on the final day on Friday. Manu Bhaker and Samrat Rana won the 10m air pistol mixed team junior event, while Rhythm Sangwan and Vijayveer Sidhu won the gold in the senior event. India dominated the event winning 25 out of 28 events in eight days. Sangwan and Sidhu defeated Valery Rakhimzhan and Irina Yunusmetova of Kazakhstan 17-3 in the final of the air pistol mixed team event.

He had topped the qualification round with a score of 579 while Kazakhstan was second with a score of 577. The other Indian pair of Shiva Narwal and Yuvika Tomar finished fourth in qualifying with a score of 573 and entered a bronze medal match, but lost 6-16 to the Korean pair to miss out on the bronze medal.

In the junior air pistol mixed team event, Manu and Samrat shot a qualification score of 578 to finish second behind Uzbekistan’s Nigina Sadkulova and Mukhamed Kamalov (579). But in the final, the Indian pair won 17-3 to claim the first place. India’s other pair of Sagar Dangi and Isha Singh also made it to the bronze medal match out of two in the event but they too lost 14-16 to Korea’s Lee Seungjun and Yang Jin.
