the question is the solution

Perhaps the reason is that the hold of the corporate sector and its lobbyists on America’s power system has become so strong that the action taken against the Microsoft company two decades ago, now seems unimaginable. That’s why social media companies are fearless.

As big as the Facebook company is, its stories of inappropriate behavior are far bigger than that. Every few days a story comes to the fore about this company’s unfair treatment. So the real question is, what is the solution? There were several hearings about this in the US Congress. But no solution came out of it. Perhaps the reason is that the hold of the corporate sector and its lobbyists on America’s power system has become so strong that the action taken against the Microsoft company two decades ago, now seems unimaginable. That is why all the excesses of social media companies are being tolerated.

Now news has come that social media company Facebook, which recently changed its name to Meta, is promoting its ad delivery system. Facebook is targeting children through artificial intelligence (AI) delivery systems, according to a new report by voluntary organizations Fairplay, Global Action Plan and Reset Australia. Facebook heard complaints about these concerns on July 27. Then it announced changes to its advertising rules for children. But the researchers say that the behavior of Facebook is still the same as before. The researchers asked the company to make its records public to substantiate their claims. Indeed, the problem is that data-driven advertising can be more confusing to children than traditional advertising.

Such advertisements can increase commercial pressure on children. This can lead to disappointment. Children may have conflicts with parents. But the Facebook company is not worrying about it. At the moment, it is estimated that by the time a child is 13 years old, advertisers will have over 70.2 million data points on them. A similar problem was drawn to the attention of young advocates in Australia and the US earlier this year. Former Facebook employee and whistleblower Francis Hogen testified before the US Congress that Instagram can have a negative impact on the mental health of adolescents. The Facebook company is also the owner of Instagram.
