Indian team fined 60 percent of match fee for slow over rate

Raipur. The Indian team was fined 60 per cent of its match fee for slow over-rate against New Zealand in the first One Day International in Hyderabad. Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the penalty after India were found three overs short of the stipulated overs in the series-opening ODI on Wednesday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement, “In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relating to breaches of the minimum over-rate, players shall be fined for each over that the team fails to complete the match within the stipulated time.” Fined 20 per cent of the fee (60 per cent for three overs). ,

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has accepted the fine for the infringement so an official hearing was not required. On-field umpires Anil Choudhary and Nitin Menon, third umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal laid down the charges. India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a 12-run win thanks to Shubman Gill’s brilliant double century.
