A2 tunnel in Maastricht temporarily completely closed after car fire

The A2 tunnel in Maastricht was closed to traffic for an hour on Wednesday afternoon due to a car fire.

The tunnel tubes of the A2 were reopened around a quarter past four. Only the right side of the N2 remained closed until the inspection of the tunnel tube was completed.

Motorists were directed from all tunnel tubes after the car fire. The fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish the fire in the car, but for safety reasons no cars were allowed in the A2 tunnel, the spokesperson for the South Limburg Safety Region said. Road users were advised to avoid the Koning Willem Alexander Tunnel from the north and south.

The vehicle burst into flames in the passage around a quarter to three for obscure reasons.

Before the A2 burrow, there was a gridlock of sluggish and fixed traffic between Oost-Maarland and the Maastricht-centrum exit. There was likewise a gridlock the other way among Meerssen and Kruisdonk.

Traffic from the north was encouraged to proceed with the course to Liège from the Kerensheide intersection on the E313 and E314 motorways.
