Taylor demands decision on Warner’s Test future before Ashes

Sydney. Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has urged the selectors to decide on David Warner’s future in Test cricket ahead of this year’s Ashes series. Warner has been battling poor form for quite some time in the longest format of the game. He scored 1, 10 and 15 in three innings in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy before being ruled out of the series with a concussion and a fractured elbow.

Taylor said, “Dave (Warner) has said that he wants to play till 2024. He wants to go to England this year and play next summer season in Australia. He is asking what do you want. Despite ongoing discussions about Warner’s future, the 36-year-old has expressed his desire to play international cricket till 2024 and has also expressed interest in playing in the Ashes this year. “I think the selectors will have to decide whether they want to take David Warner and possibly one of (Cameron) Bancroft or (Matt) Renshaw to England and Dave will be the first choice opener,” Taylor said. ”

He said, “Or they have to make a decision and say we are taking two young players… We are making changes now. That’s for them to decide. Dave has said it’s up to you, I’m available and want to play. Australia will travel to England in June for the Ashes series. Warner averages 26.04 in England. Taylor said, “It is time to think about the future. You don’t normally do that during The Ashes, you normally do that after The Ashes.
