New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not be a part of the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on December 4. Mohammed Shami will not take the field against Bangladesh due to a hand injury. Sources in the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) gave this information on Saturday. It is learned that Shami got injured during the practice session after returning from Australia. Mohammed Shami was also a part of the team in the T20 World Cup.

 

Significantly, the Indian team has to play three ODIs and two Test matches against Bangladesh. The Indian team has to play a two-Test series starting from December 14 in Chittagong. Mohammed Shami’s playing in this match is also doubtful. BCCI sources said that Mohammed Shami had injured himself during the practice session after returning from Australia. His hand is hurt. He has been asked to report at the National Cricket Academy and did not travel with the team to Bangladesh on December 1.

 

The seriousness of Shami’s injury was not known. The fast bowler from Bengal is an integral part of the Indian team in this format keeping in mind the ODI World Cup to be held next year. If Shami misses the Test series, it will be a matter of concern for skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid as India need to win every match to keep alive their hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship.

 

Sources said that Shami’s exclusion from the ODI series is a matter of concern. If he is ruled out of the Test series after the ODI series then it will be a big worry. Actually currently playing in the absence of Jaspreet Bumrah of the Indian team. In such a situation, only Mohammed Shami has to lead the Indian bowling in Test matches. Shami has so far taken 216 wickets in 60 Test matches. The team has suffered a setback due to the exclusion of Mohammed Shami from the ODI series.
