BCCI will leave no stone unturned to nurture talent from Northeast region: Jay Shah

Around 150 cricketers from the Northeast region are participating in this camp. He will also get a chance to interact with NCA chief and former India legend VVS Laxman.

The BCCI wants to ensure that players from Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim get the best coaching and infrastructure facilities at par with the best home teams.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted, “This BCCI initiative will provide an equal opportunity to young and budding talent to hone their skills and represent India in all formats. There is immense potential in sports in the Northeast and the Board will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the best talent is recognized for the country.” Working under the guidance of 19 World Cup winning coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahule is training spinners at the camp.

Although the BCCI has not shared any information about the duration of the camp, it is understood that the NCA has prepared several coaching programs including the Under-19 Regional Cricket Academy camp which will be held in different cities including Surat, Vijayawada.

150 players (25 from each of the six regions including Northeast and New Zones) have been selected for the camp based on their performance up to the Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) quarter-finals.

It comprises nine fast bowlers from each of the six regions and will aim to increase the pool of fast bowlers. After the initial camp, it will be further trimmed. India’s Under-19 team will be selected from this group.
