Jadeja calls it a privilege to wear Indian team jersey again after knee surgery

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is set to make a comeback in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia after nearly five months recovering from knee surgery, feels he is lucky to get to wear the Indian team jersey again after a career-threatening injury. Jadeja said in an interview to ‘bcci.tv’, “I am very excited and happy that after almost five months, I have got a chance to wear the Indian jersey again.” I am blessed that I have been given a chance again and the journey to reach here has been full of ups and downs. If you are not playing cricket for five months, it becomes very depressing. I was eagerly waiting to get fit as soon as possible so that I can play for India.

Jadeja said whether to undergo the surgery before or after the World Cup was a difficult decision for him personally, but in the end he followed the doctor’s advice. He said, “I had a knee problem and I would have to undergo surgery sooner or later. But I had to decide whether it would happen before or after the World Cup. The doctors also advised me to do it before the World Cup. My chances of playing in the World Cup were slim anyway. So I made up my mind and got the surgery done.

He, however, said that the post-surgery period was really difficult but he faced it with the motivation to wear the Indian jersey. The left-arm bowling all-rounder said, “The period after that (surgery) was very difficult because you have to do constant rehab (process of recovery from injury) and training. When I used to watch the match on television, I used to regret not playing because of injury. When I was watching the World Cup, I wished I could be there too.

Talking about the post-surgery recovery period, he said, “These little things motivate you to speed up the recovery process.” But worked hard. He used to come for my treatment even after the NCA was closed on Sundays. “He said,” The two months after the injury were especially difficult because I could not go anywhere, I could not even walk properly . It was a crucial time and my family and friends stood by me.The NCA coaches also boosted my confidence.

Last month, Jadeja made a successful return to the game, representing Saurashtra in a Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in Chennai. He said, “I felt a bit strange because I had not been in the sun for five months. I was doing indoor training so when I went to the ground, I was wondering if my body can sustain. “The first day was very tough and we all know about the heat in Chennai. Then my body adapted to the conditions and I was feeling good and fit. Australia’s tour of India will begin on February 9 with the first Test in Nagpur.
