The Professional League Cup is drawn, amid the possibility of a postponement

The leaders of the 28 teams – some in person and others by Zoom – will participate in the draw scheduled for 3:00 pm at the offices of the Professional Football League in Puerto Madero.

The start of the tournament is officially scheduled for the first weekend of next month but in the last hours the possibility of a week delay due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the campuses was installed.

Since training was resumed, more than 200 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported among soccer players, coaching staff and assistants.

From Footballers Associates they support the postponement, despite the fact that the rest between the end of the League Cup and the start of the 2022 LPF tournament would be shortened, amid a tight schedule for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The Professional League Cup will have the same format as the tournament that Colón de Santa Fe conquered in June of last year but with the incorporation of the promoted Tigre and Barracas Central.

The 28 teams will be divided into two zones and after a round of all against all, the best four from each group will qualify for the knockout phase.

In addition to the 13 matches of the first phase there will be an interzonal date that will mostly be paired with the so-called “classics.”

The elimination phase crosses will be played as a single match in the stadium of the best classified, while the semifinals and the final will be played on a neutral court.
