Indian men’s junior hockey team captain Uttam Singh said that after losing the title from close quarters last time, the team will be determined to win the title again in the Sultan of Johor Cup. This tournament is being organized after three years due to the Kovid-19 pandemic. Two-time former champions India had to settle for a silver medal after losing 1-2 to Britain in the final of the tournament last time, while the team took a 1-0 lead.

The captain of the junior team said before leaving for Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, “We have had many discussions in the training camp and we are sure that our team has enough talent to win the title. Coach CR Kumar’s Indian team will begin their campaign against hosts Malaysia on October 22. The team will then face South Africa on 23 October, Japan on 25 October, Australia on 26 October and defending champions Britain on 28 October. The top two teams will face each other in the final to be held on October 29.

Singh said, “Our team is excited to compete against strong teams participating in the tournament. This is a good opportunity for us to test our team which will strengthen the team as a unit. Indian captain Singh played in the Junior World Cup held at home in 2021 in which the team finished fourth after losing to France. He also made his debut for the senior team in the Asia Cup earlier this year.
