After acting and assisting in Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, Karan Johar also thought of trying his hand at directing. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were already cast for the film. Karan found it difficult to finalize the actress for the role of Tina. Twinkle Khanna was first cast for this role. Twinkle left it after shooting for the film for 11 days. After this Raveena Tandon, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tabu, Urmila Matondkar and Karisma Kapoor were also offered this role but all turned it down. Eventually it was Aditya Chopra who advised Karan that he should cast Rani Mukerji in this role. He saw the work of Rani in ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’.
