United Cup: Fritz beats Zverev, America takes lead over Germany

Sydney. Taylor Fritz fired a superb serve to beat Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-4 as the United States took an early lead over Germany at the United Cup mixed team tennis championships here on Monday. The ninth-ranked Fritz shot 96 per cent points on his first serve to win the match in 64 minutes.

Twelfth-ranked Zverev had no answer to Fritz’s powerful serve. If the US beats Germany in this match or loses by a margin of 2-3, then it will make it to the quarter-finals from Group C.
