Ministry approves financial assistance to judo players, badminton players and swordsmen

The Sports Ministry on Thursday approved financial assistance to 10 judo players, two badminton players and three swordsmen for training and competitions. Ten judokas will train for 21 days in Uzbekistan and Georgia and participate in three Grand Slams in Uzbekistan, Georgia and Turkey. Sports Authority of India will bear the participation fee, air fare, boarding and lodging, medical insurance, local travel and other expenses of the players.

Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) also sanctioned the expenses for participation of two badminton players in German Open, All England Championship, Swiss Open, Orleans Masters, Spain Masters. Their names, however, have not been disclosed in the release of the Sports Authority of India. In fencing, Laishram Moramba, Shreya Gupta and Oinam Jubraj Singh will play in the Cadet and Junior Asian Championships in Tashkent in March. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj was also sanctioned financial assistance to participate in the Singapore National Championships and avail the services of his personal coach Nihar Amin and physio Karthikeyan Balavenkatesan.
