US Open champions Ram and Salisbury to challenge at Tata Open Maharashtra

India’s Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan will not defend their title together at the Tata Open Maharashtra but will enter the tennis tournament with different partners. The men’s doubles of this ATP 250 tournament will also feature defending US Open champion pair of Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.

India’s top-ranked doubles player and two-time champion Bopanna, ranked 19th in the world, will pair up with Netherlands’ Bottik van de Zandshulp while Ramkumar will be paired with Mexico’s Miguel Angel Reyes Varela. The Indian pair of Saketh Myneni and Yuki Bhambri will also present a challenge in the doubles category. The pair has won six titles on the ATP Challenger Tour as a team in 2022.

In men’s doubles, two pairs will get wild card entry in the draw of 16 pairs which is yet to be announced. World No. 3 Ram of America and No. 4 Salisbury of Britain have been given the top seeds in the tournament with joint seventh rankings. The three-time Grand Slam champion pair capped off their 2022 season with a second straight US Open title, two ATP Masters 1000 titles and a season-ending ATP Finals title. Apart from the American pair of Nathaniel Lemmons and Jackson Withrow, the French pair of Sadio Dombia and Fabian Rebol have also got direct entry in the men’s section. The qualifying tournament will begin on December 31 while the main draw matches will be played from January 2 to 7.
