Veteran table tennis player Arun Singh passed away

World ‘Veterans’ Championship (2023) bronze medalist Arun Singh Barhat passed away after reaching here for the 29th Masters (competition for older players) National Table Tennis Championship. He was 77 years old. He is survived by daughter Atmika, son-in-law and two granddaughters. His last rites will be performed in his hometown Jodhpur on Tuesday. Arun Singh had reached Jalandhar on Sunday along with his colleagues from Rajasthan. He was to take part in the Masters tournament starting today (Monday). After reaching the hotel, Arun was supposed to go to the stadium in the evening but when there was no response after knocking on the door of the room, his friends sought the help of the hotel staff.

On opening the door, they found Arun Singh in an uncomfortable condition and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. It is believed that he died due to heart failure. Arun Singh was a passionate table tennis player and had participated in several tournaments at the national level. He regularly played in the National ‘Veterans’ Championship. Where he won many medals. He had also won the men’s doubles gold at the national championship in Srinagar last year.

TTFI (Table Tennis Federation of India) President Meghna Ahlawat condoled his untimely demise and consoled the family members. “I have heard a lot about his dedication and passion for the game. The people of the fraternity used to praise his talent and ability. It is a great loss for the table tennis family, especially for his next of kin.
