Suryakumar mastering the scoop shot while playing rubber ball cricket

Suryakumar Yadav’s scoop shot off Zimbabwe pacer Richard Nagarwa has been the talk of the town in the T20 World Cup and the aggressive Indian batsman said he mastered the particular shot while playing with the rubber ball. Suryakumar enthralled 82,000 spectators with his varied strokes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

He played an unbeaten 61 off 25 balls as India posted a strong total of 186 for five. The 32-year-old batsman had hit four sixes and six fours in his innings. His one shot on the last ball of the innings was distinctive. He scooped a full toss outside off-stump Richard Nagarwa on his knee and sent it for six runs.

Former players like Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar praised his effort. Surya Kumar, the world number one batsman in T20, said in a Star Sports program, “You have to understand which ball the bowler is going to bowl at that time which is predetermined to some extent at that time. I practiced this shot a lot while playing rubber ball cricket. Then I trust myself. You know how far the boundary line is.When I am at the crease, I feel that it is only 60-65 meters away and I try to time the shot by sensing the speed of the ball. I try to get the ball on the sweet spot of the bat and if it hits well, it goes outside the boundary line.

Suryakumar also talked about how he deals with pressure situations. “When I go out to bat, I try to hit some boundaries and if I can’t do that, I try to run fast between the wickets and try to score as many runs as possible. If you are batting with Virat bhai then you have to steal runs fast. But I know what kind of shots I need to play at that time. I play sweeps, over covers and cut shots and if I am successful then I move on from there.
