Vienna ATP 500: Schwartzman beat Monfils and is in the quarterfinals

Peque Schwartzman advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 in Vienna after beating Frenchman Gael Monfils in three sets. Now he will play with the winner of the match between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and American Frances Tiafoe

Buenos Aires tennis player Diego Schwartzman advanced to the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 Tournament in Vienna (Austria) on Thursday after defeating Frenchman Gael Monflis 7-6 (7-5), 4-6 and 6-2. 

In a match that was even from the beginning, the Argentine – ranked 16 in the world ranking – managed to win in the first set by tie break (7-6), fell 4-6 in the second set and won the third set 6-2 with precision in his points from the serve won with 66 over 62 of his rival. 

With the victory over Monfils (21st in the ranking), “Peque” Schwartzman achieved a place in the ATP Vienna quarterfinals and will play with the winner of the match between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and American Frances Tiafoe. 

The Austrian competition, which is played on a fast surface court and distributes a total of 1,974,510 euros in prizes, has only one Argentine champion and it is Juan Martín Del Potro from Tandil, who in the 2012 edition beat the Slovenian Grega in the final Zemlja by 7-5 and 6-3.
