Was surprised by Bangar’s phone call with offer to play for RCB: Jadhav

Former India batsman Kedar Jadhav, who was commentating in the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), was taken by surprise by a call from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach Sanjay Bangar. Jadhav was taking full care of his fitness along with doing commentary, so he did not delay in agreeing to this proposal. The 38-year-old batsman batted well (283 runs) for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy season.

The former India batsman recalled Bangar’s phone call, saying, “I was absolutely shocked.” But it was enjoyable. “He said in a release issued by the team,” I was doing commentary and Sanjay Bhai called me and asked what I was doing. I told him that I am doing commentary. He asked if I was still practicing and I replied in the affirmative – twice a week.

He said, “Bangar then asked me about my fitness, to which I said that I regularly go to the gym and use it in my hotel as well. I briefly told him that I am in good condition. Jadhav said, Bangar then said give me some time, I will call again. On his talk, I realized that he would call me and ask me to play for RCB. He has scored 311 runs in 17 matches for RCB in 2016 and 2017 at an average of 23.92 and a strike rate of 142.66. RCB will play their next match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
