We batted well but could not take full advantage: Markram

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram said after their eight-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League here on Thursday that they batted well but could not take full advantage of the opportunities. RCB chased down the target of 187 runs with a 172-run partnership for the first wicket between Virat Kohli (100 runs in 63 balls, 12 fours, four sixes) and captain Faf Duplesey (71 runs, 47 balls, seven fours and two sixes). Won by scoring 187 runs for two wickets with four balls remaining.

Sunrisers had earlier scored a blistering century from Heinrich Klaasen (104 off 51 balls, six sixes, eight fours) and 76 for the third wicket with Markram (18) and 74 for the fourth wicket with Harry Brook (27 not out). With the partnership of 186 runs were scored for five wickets. Markram said after the match, “I think we batted very well but could not take full advantage of the opportunities. Maybe there is some shortcoming in the powerplay. “Couldn’t win the match for Henrik who batted brilliantly today,” he said.

The Sunrisers skipper said Kohli and Du Plessis’ partnership took the match out of their reach. He said, “Faf and Kohli destroyed our hopes in the match. Markram also appreciated the fans who turned up at the stadium for their last home match of the season. “The support was great not only for us but also for RCB. Sorry we couldn’t get them a win. But thanks to him.
