We could have won with a bigger margin against Myanmar: Stimac

India beat Myanmar 1-0 in their opening match of the tri-nation international football tournament but head coach Igor Stimac feels they should have won by a bigger margin given the dominance of the hosts. Two decisions involving skipper Sunil Chhetri denied India two goals. In this, India were not given a penalty in the first half, while on one occasion the goal was declared invalid for offside. Stimac said that for him the score line is not 1-0 but 3-0.

Indian coach Stimac said, “I can’t say anything to our players because they played the way we wanted.” Goalkeeper Amrinder played brilliantly and Sunil was unlucky not to score. He was hungry to score and could have scored a hat-trick.” Not many expected Chhetri to play the full 90 minutes just four days after the Indian Super League (ISL) final but seeing the Indian captain’s determination and hunger to score Huye Stimac decided to keep him on the field for full time.

The coach said, “Sunil was the first player to reach the camp after the ISL final. He didn’t waste a minute to join the national team. This shows his hunger and commitment. He is one of the fittest players in the team and can play for three consecutive days.
