We could not get medical clearance for Dottin: Gujarat Giants

Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise Gujarat Giants on Sunday issued an explanation for all-rounder Deandra Dottin’s absence from the squad, saying they were unable to get the West Indies player’s medical clearance in time considering she is playing in the early stages of the tournament. The franchise has roped in Australian all-rounder Kim Gareth, who was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad, for the initial phase, though did not play any matches. Gareth went unsold at last month’s auction.

The franchisee had earlier said that Dottin, who was bought for an amount of Rs 60 lakh, was ‘recovering from a medical condition’. Dottin tweeted that he was fully fit. “I appreciate all the messages, but to be honest I’m still recovering from an injury, thank you,” she tweeted on Saturday. ,

Gujarat Giants took to social media to clarify the issue and said, “Diandra is a world class player and a good fit for the franchise. But unfortunately we could not get the medical clearance for this season before the stipulated deadline, such clearance is required for all players participating in WPL. ,

“We look forward to seeing him back on the field soon,” he said. She will be a part of the Gujarat Giants team in the upcoming season, subject to the approval of the medical report. Gareth joined the Gujarat Giants squad on Friday but was not part of the playing XI against Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.
