We lost despite improving a lot: Megan Schutt
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowler Megan Schutt has accepted the poor performance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), saying that her team improved a lot in the last match but it was not enough to win. RCB suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium here on Monday. This was the team’s fifth defeat in five matches.
“Yeah, it’s frustrating, I won’t lie,” Schutt said after the match. We improved in many areas today and showed a lot of character. It was something we had not done in previous matches. Delhi Capitals won the match by scoring 151 runs for four wickets with two balls remaining. Shute had a breakthrough in the match conceding 24 runs in four overs.
He said that under the leadership of Marijan Cape (17 runs in four overs), the Delhi bowlers bowled tightly. He said, “It was not good for us to lose the toss. During practice before the match, I had said that the pitch is not flat. Cape is a world class bowler, they have some other good bowlers in their team. He should be given credit for bowling brilliantly. We failed to steal runs by playing the ball in the open and too many dot balls added to our problems.
Alice Capse, who contributed with the bat to Delhi’s win, said, “It was a great win. You want to win such close matches. The way Kep and Jess batted, it was brilliant. England batsman Capse scored 38 off 24 balls while Cape (32 not out) and Jess Jonassen (29 not out) shared an unbroken 45-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the team to the target. Delivered.
“I haven’t scored many runs in this tournament so far so it was nice to contribute to the team’s win,” Capse said. Obviously good to get some boundaries and put the team ahead in the powerplay. When the spinners bowled slowly, they got a little more help from the pitch. Overall a good pitch.
