MCC changes wording of run out rule at ‘non-striker’ end

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Thursday admitted that there was some ambiguity in the rule regarding the run out of the batsman at the ‘non-striker’ end and said that they would change the wording of the rule to remove all doubts. Was doing. The wording of the rule was changed a week after the incident involving Australian spinner Adam Zampa in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The Melbourne Stars skipper tried to ‘Mankad’ Melbourne Renegades batsman Tom Rogers but was caught by the TV umpire at his own fault, leaving the off-spinner deeply embarrassed. Zampa, having completed his follow-through, was about to throw the ball to McKenzie Harvey when he turned around and blew away Rogers’ bails and signaled to the umpire to get the batsman out.

But the umpire referred Zampa’s appeal to the TV umpire. The third umpire said that Zampa’s arm went too far ‘vertically’ at the time of ball release. On Thursday, the MCC issued a statement on the BBL incident saying that the umpires made the right decision. But the MCC also added that there was some ambiguity in the wording of the rule which must have led to the doubt and now the change in the wording of Rule 38.3 would bring better clarity.
