Madhya Pradesh bundled out Railways’ innings for 274 with Avesh’s four wickets.
A brilliant bowling performance by Avesh Khan (4/69) helped defending champions Madhya Pradesh dismiss Railways for 274 in 87.4 overs on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group D match on Tuesday. Apart from Avesh, Saransh Jain (2/50), Puneet Date (2/52), Kumar Kartikeya (1/57) and Shubham Sharma (1/8) were among the successful bowlers.
Railways won the toss and decided to bat but Avesh got the team off to a great start by dismissing Vivek Singh without opening the account on the fifth ball of the innings itself. In his second spell, he showed the path of pavilion to Shivam Chowdhary (21) in the 16th over of the innings. Captain Upendra Yadav scored 61 runs in a 123-ball fighting innings for Railways. Number 10 and number 11 batsmen Akash Pandey (24 not out) and Adarsh Singh (24) shared a 45-run partnership for the last wicket to take the team’s score past 250.
In the other matches of the group, only 17 overs could be played in the matches of Punjab and Tripura in Agartala. The Punjab team had scored 62 runs on one wicket during this period. Half-centuries from Bhagmendra Lather (68 not out), Arsalan Khan (56) and Gaurav Puri (51) helped Chandigarh post 247 for seven against Gujarat in Ahmedabad. Vidarbha bundled out Jammu and Kashmir’s first innings for 191 runs at Nagpur to reach 58 for two at the end of the day’s play.
