Women’s Championship is being opposed in many countries, now BFI tries to persuade by contacting

New Delhi. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is not disheartened by the increasing number of countries boycotting the Women’s World Championships here but has started efforts to reach out to them and convince them to change their decision. The International Boxing Association (IBA) has allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete under its flag against the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC has banned its players because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and cannot play under its flag. In protest against the IBA’s decision, nine countries have decided to pull out of the Women’s World Championship to be held in New Delhi from March 15 to 26. These countries include the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

BFI Executive Director Col Arun Malik said, “We need not be disheartened as 74 countries are still coming to participate in the event. Only a few countries have decided to withdraw.” BFI has started talks with six of the boycotting countries to reverse their decision.

Malik said, “We have written letters to the six countries that withdrew from the competition. He can talk with our president Ajay Singh. We do not know at what level the decision has been taken from their side. We do not know whether the decision has been taken by their national federation or by their government. Our effort is to include some of these countries in the competition.
