Women’s IPL in March next year, five teams will participate

The much-awaited Women’s IPL (WIPL) will be held in March ahead of the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) next year in which five teams will participate. According to a ‘note’ from the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI), there will be a total of 20 league matches in the tournament in which the teams will face each other twice. The team topping the points table will qualify for the final while the second and third placed teams will play in the eliminator. According to the note available with PTI, each team can keep up to five foreign players in their playing XI.

“In order to strike a balance between domestic and international players and to create a more competitive team, it has been decided to have five teams in WIPL for the time being,” it added. Each team will have 18 players while no team can keep more than six foreign players. Of these, four players will be from ICC’s full-time member countries and one player from ICC’s associate member countries. ,

The Women’s Big Bash League in Australia and The Hundred in Britain cannot have more than three foreign players. There are total 15 players in each team. The board is also considering that due to the limited number of teams, it will not be possible to organize matches on the home ground and the opponent team’s ground. The tournament can be organized immediately after the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in South Africa from February 9 to 26.

According to the BCCI, “Organizing matches in the WIPL on the home and opposition grounds will be challenging. Therefore it is suggested that the first 10 matches be held at one venue and the remaining 10 matches at another venue.” is selecting.
