Women’s Premier League: Wong said diversity in bowling made the team strong

Mumbai After Mumbai Indians registered their third consecutive win in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the team’s fast bowler Isi Wong indicated that the diversity in the bowling attack has given the team strength in the tournament. West Indies all-rounder Hayley Mathews has been instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ performance. He started with an innings of 47 against Gujarat Giants and then scored an unbeaten 77 against Royal Challengers Bangalore besides picking up three wickets. On Thursday, Mathews took three wickets for 19 runs and played a blistering knock of 32 runs as Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by eight wickets with five overs to spare. Wong also took three wickets against Delhi on Thursday.

He said, “There is a lot of variety in our bowling attack. We have left arm spinner, off spinner, leg spinner. We have variety in fast bowling as well. Wong said, “We have taken into account all the departments. This gives us an opportunity to adopt flexibility. Harmanpreet (Kaur) has done a fabulous job. Healy and Harman got us back at the right time against RCB and we were able to do that because of the diversity in our bowling attack.

Wong said that the Mumbai Indians team could not have asked for a better start than this. Delhi Capitals head coach Jonathan Batty said that the loss of seven wickets for a little over 20 runs was the reason for his team losing the match. He said, “Full credit goes to Mumbai Indians who bowled very well with the new ball. They didn’t let us play freely in the powerplay. “We were recovering well to be 80 for three after 12 overs but then we lost seven wickets for 24 runs and batted only 18 overs,” Batty said. It was a loss not being able to play two overs.
