‘Don’t hesitate to take big decisions even if a player doesn’t like it’, Shikhar Dhawan’s statement on team selection

Shikhar Dhawan, popularly known as Gabbar in Indian cricket, has made a big statement saying that he has matured as his captain and can take tough decisions. During a conversation, he also said that as a captain, he does not hesitate to take such decisions which may be bad for a player, but can benefit the team. Actually, he does not appear in T20 and Test cricket for a long time. But in ODIs he is included in the team. Along with this, he is also handed over the captaincy. Once again the Indian team is going to enter the team ODI against New Zealand. The leadership of the team is in the hands of Shikhar Dhawan. Even before this, Shikhar Dhawan has led the team. The team has won under his captaincy in Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies.

Talking about team selection, he clearly said that the more you play, the more confident you can be in your decisions. There have been many occasions when I have shown respect to a bowler by giving him the extra over. But now I have matured and even if it hurts someone, I take the decision which benefits the team. He said that it is most important to maintain balance in the team and win the trust of the players to win. Along with this, he said that he hardly feels the pressure and keeps the atmosphere around him pleasant. Dhawan said that when you play music on a stringed instrument, if the string is too loose, it will not sound good or if the string is too tight, it will break. So it is linked to creating balance. It is important to create balance as a captain.

The senior player of the team said that you should know when to tighten the string and when to leave it a little loose. It depends on the time. At this stage, I have also understood when and how much to talk to the players. He said that if a bowler is hit by a shot, it is important to know when to talk to him. I will not talk to him when it is hot in the atmosphere. Instead, I’ll talk to her casually later. Dhawan said, “It also depends on the level at which you are captaining. If it is IPL then most of the players mature, so you have to think whether to pull the strings or not. There are times in Ranji Trophy when you have to show determination because at that level some players are raw pitchers and you have to be determined to mold them. It is important to maintain balance. The 36-year-old player was recently appointed the captain of the Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings.
