World Badminton Federation: Prannoy reaches career best eighth ranking

New Delhi. India’s star shuttler HS Prannoy has moved up to a career-best ranking of eighth in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) world rankings released on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Kerala player has been in scintillating form this year. He had earlier achieved the eighth ranking in 2018 as well but after that he slipped to 34th position in 2019. Prannoy put up a memorable performance this year. He reached the quarterfinals of seven tournaments, made it to the semi-finals in two, while finishing runner-up at the Swiss Open.

He did not win any singles title but was instrumental in India’s Thomas Cup triumph. Among other Indian men’s players, Lakshya Sen remained unchanged at seventh but Kidambi Srikanth slipped a place to 12th. PV Sindhu, who has missed any tournament due to injury after winning the Commonwealth Games gold, has slipped a rung to seventh in the women’s singles rankings.

In the men’s doubles rankings, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Sen remained static at the fifth position. The fast-rising pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila have climbed three places to be at No.21. In the women’s doubles rankings, the pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Trisa Jolly has moved up a place to be at 17th position. In mixed doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto have moved up two places to be at 18th position.
