Thankfully, Drasha made it to the Asian Games and World Championship team

New Delhi. The first Indians to win a gold medal in the skeet event of the Shooting World Cup, Ganimat Sekhon and Darsha Rathore have been named in the shooting team for the ISSF World Championships in Azerbaijan and the upcoming Asian Games (Hangzhou, China in September). The third skeet shooter in the women’s section for both the major events is Parinaz Dhaliwal. The first Indian woman skeet shooter to win a medal at the Junior World Championships and the first Indian woman skeet shooter to win a World Cup bronze, Ganimat had won a silver medal at the World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan last month. Darsha made it memorable for India by winning a bronze medal in the Almaty World Cup.

This was the first time that two Indian shooters had won two medals in the individual event of the Women’s Skeet World Cup. The men’s skeet team for the Asian Games and World Championships includes 2014 Asian Championships silver medalist Anantjit Singh Naruka, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjot Singh Khangura in the junior category. Veteran skeet shooter Meraj Ahmad Khan, a multiple-time national champion, was not included in the team for both these events. According to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), the team has been selected keeping in mind the scores from four trials held in the first six months of 2023 and some international events.

In the men’s trap section, Prithviraj Tondaiman, veteran Zorawar Singh Sandhu and Olympian Keenan Chenai made it to the team while 2006 world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu failed to secure a place. In the women’s trap team, Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak and Rajeshwari Kumari were preferred while big names like Shreyasi Singh and Shagun Chowdhary could not make it to the team.
