Bumrah starts bowling practice at NCA, no deadline fixed for return

Bangalore. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled seven overs during net practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) but when he will return to the national team after recovering from injury, there is no answer yet. However, Indian fans waiting for the 2023 World Cup are considering Bumrah’s bowling in the nets as good news. The World Cup schedule has been released in Mumbai on Tuesday. Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand in March for a recurring back problem and has since been on his way back to fitness. Bumrah played his last match for India in September 2022 during the home T20 International match against Australia.

In such a situation, questions are being raised whether Bumrah will be able to make a comeback in the T20 International series against Ireland or in the Asia Cup? “For this type of injury, it is not wise to set a timeline as constant monitoring of the player is required,” a source tracking the development told PTI. It can however be said that Bumrah is recovering well from the injury. He has bowled seven overs in the NCA nets. He has been steadily increasing his workload, which includes moving from light workouts in the initial stages to bowling. He said, “He will play some practice matches next month (at NCA) and then his fitness will be closely assessed.” Needed

He said, “He should not be in a hurry. Playing practice matches at NCA is a good step as it will help prepare his body for the demands of the match. He should play some real (domestic) matches before being brought into top-level cricket. Lokesh Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are also undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Both these players are also making good progress in their recovery from injury. No specific timeline has been fixed for his return either. Rahul underwent thigh surgery in London while Shreyas underwent lower back surgery.
