WTC final against India is our grand final: Lyon

Melbourne. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon believes the talks over the Ashes will not hamper Australia’s preparations for the World Test Championship final and even termed the upcoming final against India as a ‘grand final’. The WTC final between India and Australia will be played at The Oval from June 7. At the same time, the five-Test Ashes series against England will begin on June 16. Lyon told the Australian Associated Press, “We are playing the Ashes but before that there is a big match to play. The WTC final is our grand final and this is where the season will start.”

He said, “Every Australian fan is looking forward to the Ashes but there should be excitement about this match as well.” The Australian team will enter the Ashes without playing any warm-up matches. Lyon said that 1 in the Test series in India. Losing by 2 won’t have any effect on this match. He said, “What happened in India cannot be changed but the preparations of both the teams are good. India have some good batsmen and fast bowlers too so it will be a good challenge. This is a new match and will be played afresh.
