Bowlers made Madhya Pradesh comeback against Andhra

A brilliant performance by the bowlers led by Avesh Khan (4/24) helped Madhya Pradesh make a brilliant comeback by bundling out Andhra for just 93 runs in their second innings on the third day of the Ranji Trophy quarter-final match on Thursday. Madhya Pradesh, who trailed by 151 runs in the first innings, got a target of 245 runs to win and at the end of the day’s play, the team scored 58 runs without loss. Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari showed great spirit in the second innings as in the first innings and came out to bat at number 11 despite a serious wrist injury.

Right-handed batsman Vihari batted with his left hand to prevent the injury from getting serious and contributed 15 runs to take the team’s score past 90. He also hit three fours in his 16-ball innings. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh started the day at 144 for four in the first innings but left-arm fast bowler Prithviraj Yara took five wickets to bundle out the team for 228. Andhra scored 379 runs in the first innings.

Yara took five wickets for 26 runs in which he showed the path of pavilion to Harsh Gawli (1), Saransh Jain (8), Avesh Khan (15) and Kumar Kartikeya (24) on Thursday. Madhya Pradesh had lost eight wickets for 179 runs but Karthikeya and Avesh shared a 48-run partnership to take the team’s score to 220. Madhya Pradesh then bundled out Andhra’s second innings for 93 in 32.3 overs. Avesh got good support from Gaurav Yadav (3/10), Kumar Kartikeya (2/41) and Saransh Jain (1/11).

For Andhra, Ashwin Hebbar made the highest contribution of 35 runs in the second innings. He added 37 runs for the third wicket with Nitish Kumar Reddy (14). After the break of this partnership, the team lost wickets at frequent intervals. Madhya Pradesh need 187 more runs to win. Openers Yash Dubey (24) and Himanshu Mantri (31) remain at the crease. Both have shared a 58-run partnership for the opening wicket.
