This hit is his record for the fastest ‘hit’ by a male player in badminton. Under this record, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy has hit the fastest shot. He hit this shot at such a high speed that Shoaib Akhtar’s record of the fastest ball seemed very small in front of it. Satwik, who recently won the Indonesia Open Super 1000 title with Chirag Shetty, also broke the more than a decade-old record of 493 kmph set by Malaysia’s Tan Boon Hiong in May 2013. Satwik’s smash was faster than the fastest ever achieved by a Formula One car at 372.6 kmph. The record for the fastest badminton ‘hit’ in the women’s section was held by Malaysia’s Ten Pearly, who shot at a speed of 438 kmph.

 

“Yonex is proud to announce that Yonex badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (India) and Ten Pearly (Malaysia) have achieved the fastest men’s and women’s badminton hits, respectively,” Yonex, a Japanese sports equipment manufacturer, said in a release. The world record was set on 14 April 2023 and confirmed by the official judges of the Guinness World Records based on the speed measurement results of that day. Satwik did this smash at the Yonex Factory Gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan.

 

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy is a resident of Amalapuram city of Andhra Pradesh. He has succeeded in breaking a decade old record. The old record was set by Malaysian shuttler Tan Parly, who clocked a speed of 438 kmph. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy picked up a badminton racket at the age of six. He first got training from his father. In the year 2014, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy joined Pullela Gopichand’s academy. Here he played under the leadership of former player and coach Pullela Gopichand. After this, he won his first title at the under-13 level as the sub-junior state badminton championship. After this, in the year 2014, he won the title in the doubles tournament in the Under-17 Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship. The very next year in 2015, he won the first gold medal in the Asian Junior Badminton Championship playing under-17. This was the first international gold medal of his career. She also won her first international title in 2015 at the Tata Open India International with mixed doubles partner Kullapalli Manisha.

 

In the year 2018, Satwik was successful in winning the silver medal in the doubles tournament, playing in pair with Chirag Shetty. In the Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia, Satwik was successful in winning the gold medal in the mixed team. After this, he was again paired with Chirag in the Asian Games played in Jakarta. However, he could not win in this tournament. But he became paired with Chirag.

 

The duo made headlines in 2019 when Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen of China were defeated by Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty. With this win, both of them won the Thailand Open doubles title. With this win, Satwik and Chirag became the first Indian pair to win a Super 500 series title. In the same year, both were successful in reaching the doubles final match, but they had to face defeat in the final match against Marcus Ferlandi Gideon and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuljo of Indonesia. The pair also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, but both finished ninth at the tournament.
